Keep it real.

Songbei is a tune I wrote back in 2019 after having an amazing day walking in the sunshine along side the Songhua river in Harbin China. I tried to capture the feeling of a light breeze and sunshine in the flute melody. I was originally going to have the track be called Songhua River but I did not have a good picture of the river to use as an album artwork so I just named the track Songbei which is a district on the far side of the Songhua river. During this production I was working on track stacking, processing, EQing and working with multiple return channels.
I started this track on staff paper and wrote out all the flute, piano and clarinet parts. I then went into the DAW and input all that I wrote. I wanted to switch up the style this time. I did not like this method of production as much as it was very difficult for me to work this way. I prefer to start directly in the DAW and just improvise around until I find a melody or a groove and then write out the parts on the staff paper afterwards. I was trying out a new workflow. Don’t like the sit and compose first method.

I did notice that there is not much dynamic change throughout the track. It goes from mezzo forte to forte then fortissimo. I will remember to add more dynamics in the next single.
I learned a lot producing Songbei. I used a lot of different techniques that I have never used before. Now it’s time to finish up another track. This time I’m going back to my home DAW Ableton Live 10. Songbei was produced in Logic Pro X. More Krinzkolo Music coming soon.
